Consider How Getting Liposuction Might Affect Your Marriage
Some people like to spice up their love life by accentuating their natural attractiveness
. They invest in makeup and clothing that compliments their bodies. In healthy marriages, partners try to keep romance alive in many ways. Getting liposuction might seem like a natural way to keep a spouse interested, but sometimes the opposite is actually true. Relationships are complicated, and sometimes spouses react in surprising ways to changes.
Getting cosmetic surgery is a change. It may seem like a relatively small one, but any change can make waves in relationships, and the waves are not always good ones.
Despite the common conception that most people have of liposuction, only a few pounds are actually ever removed at one time. It is shocking for the body to lose a lot of fat at once and so taking too much can be destructive or even fatal.
That's why when a person gets the surgery, the affected area is not drastically changed; it is simply trimmed up and made a little more firm.
In a society that insists that thinner is always better, people naturally assume that love partners will find them desirable after they have had liposuction.
In some relationships, this is true. The noticeable improvements can get the other excited. Usually, though, the reality is complicated. Even a spouse who is pleased with the changes may have some reservations.
Some spouses are offended by the other trying to make himself or herself more attractive. They wonder why their loved one is trying so hard. Getting cosmetic surgery can be seen as personally hurtful.
A spouse may wonder if the other is unsatisfied with the intimacy in the relationship or cares too much about being attractive for other people. The sentiment of "I like you the way you are, so why change yourself?" might be felt by a spouse.
Other times the choice to get liposuction is seen as a vain choice. Spouses can be judgmental, feeling that their loved one is overly concerned with image and not as concerned with affection.
Ultimately, changing your body will affect your marriage. Getting liposuction is less of an individual decision and more of a couple decision.
At very least, the viewpoint of the spouse should be taken seriously. Sitting down to talk about the decision can help both partners understand the desires and reservations of the other.
If both spouses like the idea and are comfortable with the consequences, only then should it happen. Otherwise, hurt feelings and misunderstandings can lead to relationship conflicts.
