Considering A Career In The Security World?

If you are considering a career within the security industry

, then two of the best places to start are as a security guard or door supervisor. It is from here that you can build a solid foundation of knowledge and experience and should you so choose, then progress onto the more difficult but ultimately more rewarding career of close protection.

Due to the relatively new government legislation, the only way for you to work in the UK security industry is through acquiring an SIA licence for your chosen activity and this can only be achieved by sitting and passing the required Security Industry Authority exams, carried out by an approved SIA training company.

Door Supervisor and Security Guard training means sitting through a fair amount of theory to make sure you understand the necessary legislation, as well as the roles and responsibilities of your position.

Typically a training course will take two to three days, and at the end you will be required to complete a written exam, in addition to this you will be required to make an assessment on what you see on conflict management videos. This ensures that the theory is understood and you can apply the essential skills.

When you complete your training, and if you pass, you are entitled to apply for your SIA licence.

When you are in receipt of your SIA licence you will be allowed to work in the security industry for a period of three years, during which time you will undoubtedly improve your skills and knowledge. When the three year period is over you must renew your SIA licence. This should not be a problem, provided that you have not been involved in any unprofessional incidents.

Remember, an SIA Licence is a paramount requirement in becoming a Door Supervisor and Security Guard, or for that matter, any role within the private security sector. That includes security services such as CCTV, Cash in Transit, Manned Guarding, Key Holding and Close Protection.

Failure to obtain an SIA licence means that any work you do in these roles means that you will be breaking the law and will face a fine or prison sentence, perhaps both should the event be significant enough to warrant such actions.

It is likely that an SIA licence will enable you to begin working almost immediately; as the rise of terrorism and recession fuelled petty crime means an increased demand for security personnel.

Do some research and get the best quality Security Guard and Door Supervisor training, look for a highly regarded company with SIA training certification. This will guarantee you get an answer to all your questions and the very best possible commencement to your new career.
