IRISH coach Declan Kidney is more than relieved to have Rory Best's experience on board at the start of the November Test series against South Africa on Saturday.
Best missed the majority of last season due to a neck operation, but he was back on the pitch sooner than expected with a remarkable recovery and played in all three of last season's Six Nations matches.
Best and Munster's Jerry Flannery usually have a battle to see who gets the start for Ireland previously, and while there will always be the arguments associated with that between the fans, Kidney was more than relieved when Best recovered fully from a bang to the head while playing for Ulster recently.

Given Flannery was already ruled out injured, there would have been no arguments that a fully fit Best would be wearing the number two shirt against the reigning world champions.
"Everyone gets picked on merit and you have to go with the management decisions. Sometimes those calls can be close and there can be disappointment, as there is at every team selection," said Best, who will earn his 40th cap this weekend when Ireland officially open the new Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
"They are the World champions and it is the first big Test match at the new stadium. It is not often one of the oldest venues in the world
gets a facelift, so everyone wants to be playing in that first game as well.
"This week there have been disappointments for some players who have not made the cut. For me it is about going out and giving my everything as I do in the Irish jersey, the Ulster shirt or even for Banbridge, when I played for them in the All Ireland League last year as I built up to making my return."
"I have been feeling good, although I needed to go through a ftness test last week after taking a bang to the head against Edinburgh.
"I am happy with the way it has been going this season with Ulster and I am trying to add little bits here and there to my game."
"But the most important game for me is the one against South Africa this week. When that is over, the next important game will be against
Samoa.
"The management may well be looking towards the World Cup and there has obviously been some planning going on there already, but for the players it is a matter of just looking ahead to the next game."
He added: "I am looking forward to gettingout there on Saturday, facing the reigning World champions and helping get Ireland back to winning ways."
