. This often bypassed coast is situated just to the east of the Costa Tropical and Costa del Sol. For the most part this section of the coast is underdeveloped which could be due to the deserted landscape found here. There are a few resorts such as Mojacar Playa, Aguadulce and Roquetas de Mar that defies the landscape only to enhance it. What is interesting about this area is that it was used as a location for the spaghetti westerns which were filmed here. For the nature lover there is the impressive Cabo de Gata natural park for you to roam around in.

The Costa de Almeria's economy is based on agriculture of a different style called "plasicultura", which is the process of growing fruit and vegetables in polythene greenhouses. People travel here just to see how it all comes together producing a great wealth for this area. There is a huge Moorish fortress in the city of Almeria but sadly it lays in ruin today. Besides Almeria there two other seaside resorts on this section of coast: Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce which has a seafront promenade running along a wide sandy beach. All of the resorts have excellent water sports facilities.

They filmed Spaghetti westerns here starting in the 1960s in the area of Tabernas which is about 15 miles inland from Almeria because it looked so much like the American Wild West. Three of the original sets are now tourist attractions and among them is Mini Hollywood with its own small zoo. Some of the films shot here include "Once upon a Time in the West" and "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" plus a lot more.

If you are a nature lover you got to visit the Cabo de Gata natural park just southeast Almeria city. This is the only natural desert in Europe with only some 100 millimetres of rain each year. Despite the lack of rain the park supports a variety of plants and animal life along with a colony of flamingos based on the large salt flats during the spring and autumn. Situated on the coast is a laid back fishing village called Agua Amarga with a long sandy beach where they could beach their fishing boats. There are also some beautiful sandy bays scattered along the coast.

A good place to book your ANDALUCIA VILLAS is in the town of Mojacar; this town of two parts gives you a choice of which century you would like to experience. The two parts are the Mojacar Playa and Mojacar Pueblo; the latter is a traditional Moorish village with whitewashed houses where as Mojacar Playa is a modern seaside resort with a grand choice of amenities.
