Could You Be On The Way To A Lifestyle Disease?
Our hospitals are filled with people who are sick with diseases directly related to our inactive and sedentary lifestyles and poor eating habits
. We used to think that not doing enough physical activity was unhealthy but now research is uncovering that a lack of proper muscular activity can actually cause disease.
These diseases have the label of 'chronic lifestyle diseases' and if you are the victim of one of them it can rob you of your health, your strength, your energy, your vitality, and your ability to earn a living. Eventually it can steal away your life savings, your mind, your dignity and your life.
Chronic 'lifestyle' diseases, such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes and at least fifty others have a long course of illness. They develop slowly over time, and there may be no symptoms for ten, twenty or more years. They are not curable, and can continue during a person's lifetime greatly reducing the quality of life.
These diseases rarely heal by themselves and account for 70 percent of all deaths and 75 percent of medical care costs so they place a large economic drain on our communities, countries and ultimately our world.
It is a sad reality that today's society believes that health can be found in a pill therefore personal responsibility is not necessary. But no matter how many billions of dollars is invested in medical miracles the decline of our collective health continues unabated. The facts are that one out of every two people (fifty percent) of people in the world today has a chronic 'lifestyle' disease. Many have multiple conditions.
You may be someone who is well at the moment and you may think you are getting away with not doing any muscle building and maintaining exercise or eating a poor quality diet of mainly processed foods. But underneath the surface things may well be happening that are reducing your body's ability to function properly.
You may be feeling tired and lack energy, your digestion may not be breaking down the food you eat efficiently, your blood may not be getting pumped as well as it should be, your waistline keeps increasing and you may simply not be feeling as well as you should.
You may even wonder and be saying to yourself "why should I bother to exercise, I am well now?" But we all need to expect more than simply an absence of disease. We should expect an abundance of strength and energy, of feeling vital and alive so we can get the most of life and living. But this state of 'real' health does not happen by itself, it has to be worked at.
The thing at the very top of the list to achieve it is a proper exercise program that works the muscular system through its ranges of movement under a load. This will keep the metabolism (the body's engine) strong and healthy which is dependant on the condition and strength of the muscles.
To just drift along in life not giving long term health and wellness a second thought could be likened to playing Russian roulette. If you get one of these nasty diseases no pill or doctor is going to be able to fix it. At best the symptoms can be managed but that will still reduce the quality of life significantly.
Take it upon yourself and get yourself started on a proper strength training program to maintain your physical strength and protect yourself and your future. Although we can't control all of our risk factors, we can do this one simple thing that will reduce the risk of ending up with one of these nasty diseases by around 80 percent. That is a pretty good deal in anyone's book.
