Coventry Roofing Contractors - Getting the Right Information

This is the second article in the series about how to find and select a company from

the many roofing contractors in the Coventry area, who will be the right company to fix your roof. As before the article is specifically directed at homeowners in Coventry and Warwickshire but the advice is essentially going to be the same wherever you are.

If you followed the advice of my previous article you will have found some possible companies to do the work on your roof. You now need to talk to some roofing contractors. Call them up and make an appointment to for them to come and inspect your roof. You want them to come to you to do an analysis of the work required to sort out your roofing problem. You need to talk to at least 3 companies so that you can make some suitable comparisons.

Do not be surprised if some of these companies don't appear to be very interested in working for you. Some of them are very busy with other work and they are not going to pick up small jobs it they are up to their eyes in work already.

First you need to assess the nature of the work needed to be done on your roof with each of the roofing contractors you talk to. Do you need a new roof or will a repair job be adequate? Make sure that that the roofing contractor has a clear idea about what you want and the nature of the job to be done. You can also discuss the materials which can be used. There is a lot of information on the internet about roofing materials such as types of tiles and, if you have done your research then you can make a full contribution to the discussions about the options.

The point of all these discussions is that the contractor should be able to give you an estimate for the work to be done. You want at least three estimates. Make sure that the estimates are all for the same job so that you can make direct and accurate comparisons between the three estimates. Also check what will happen if, in the course of the job, a revised estimate has to be made. You do not want a nasty shock while your house is missing half a roof.

In addition you should get some references from the contractor so that you can get independent judgements from previous customers as to the quality of the work done by the contractor and the reliability of the company during the job. Did they come when they said they would come? Were the roofing team all there when they were supposed to be there or were they distracted by other jobs? Did they finish the job in the time specified? Above all would you hire them again?

Now is the time to make your choice. I suggest you don't only base your choice on price and pick the lowest estimate. You may not get the best service from a roofing contractor if you just decide on the basis of price. The most important criterion is the good reputation of the company concerned and you will have found out that from your researches on the internet (if the contractor has a website) and from the references.
