Facelift - The Information You Need
It goes without saying that America is obsessed with appearance and youth
. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing - we'll leave it to the sociologists. The fact remains is that many people dread the thought of getting old, a mindset that has given rise to an explosive boom in cosmetic surgery such as facelifts. And the surgery that probably makes the most difference when it comes to the appearance of aging is the facelift. Performed all around the country, this operation is preferable to many injectables (such as Botox) because it lasts much longer. Many injectables only last a couple of months, but a good facelift can last up to ten years or more, depending on several factors.
When people talk about needing a facelift, they are generally talking about one of five things (or possibly a combination of one or more of them). These things include wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth and eyes, changes in the pigment, a loss in the overall volume, which can lead to things such as sunken eyes and hollow cheeks, a loss of elasticity in the skin, and the effects of gravity. All of these can combine or work in isolation to cause a person to begin looking older. There are numerous temporary remedies (and not a few snake oils being sold at just about every pharmacy in the country), but to truly get things fixed, a good plastic surgeon is always the best choice.
In order to determine whether or not you are a candidate for a facelift, you should set up a consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon and discuss your options. Before you do that, however, take a look at the condition you are looking to heal and come to a preliminary determination about whether this procedure can help you. Some good reasons to get it done include mid-face sagging, loose skin around the neck and jaw, creases above the upper lip and drawing from the nose, and creases beneath the eyes. These are all things that can be corrected with surgery. If your concern is elsewhere, the treatment you may benefit from could be different.
Once you've decided on a surgeon, you'll meet for a consultation. During this consultation, the doctor will tell you everything you should know about your options and will answer your questions regarding the benefits, risks, and recovery time. He will also make a final determination about whether you are a candidate based on your skin type, age, medical history, and so on. From there, you will be able to make your appointment and have the facelift done, hopefully getting the results you've dreamed of.
