Crank Up Your Metabolism
If your metabolism is slow, some of the food gets converted into fat instead of energy
. The goal is to get the metabolism working fast to burn the fat. Here are some tricks that will up your fat-burning power.
1. Eat Breakfast
Your mother was right when she told you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you think you will lose weight by skipping breakfast, consider this...if you don't eat in the morning, your body goes into starvation mode, burning calories more slowly to conserve energy. Moreover, everything else you eat throughout the day has a far greater chance of being stored as fat. Even worse, you'll get hungry later in the day or night and eat something that's probably not very good for you.
2. Eat often
Too much time between meals can cause a rise in blood sugar and your insulin levels, which tricks your body into hanging on to more fat. Your metabolism gets a boost everytime you eat. The key is to eat something every 3 hours, 5 meals in total. But remember the meals in-between breakfast, lunch and dinner don't need to be big, just a handful of almonds, an apple of a few slices of turkey will be enough.
3. Work out with intensity
Your metabolism needs a boost from the intensity you put into your workouts. Interval training is the best way to rev it up, so alternate fast walks with slower ones, runs with periods of rest throughout your cardio workout.
4. Weight train
The muscle that you build with weights helps you increase your metabolic rate because your body burns a lot of calories to maintain that muscle. Not only do you burn calories during your exercise, you also increase your metabolism long after the workout.
5. Drink more water
Your body needs water to process calories and lack of H2O actually slows down your metabolism. The more water you drink the more calories you will burn.
6. Don't eat fat
Oily and buttery foods take longer to digest and will keep you feeling full longer. Don't wait more than 3 hours between meals, it will only slow down your metabolism.
7. Take vitamins
Make sure you at least take a multivitamin every day. Giving your body all the vitamins and minerals it needs, will assure a faster metabolic rate.
8. Burn calories while you sleep
Sleep is important in boosting your metabolism, so get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Research shows that a lack of sleep slows down metabolism drastically.
