Create Compelling Teleseminars and Audios To Promote Your Service Business
As a service business owner, you probably have been told to add audio and video to your current website marketing. But sometimes even the most savvy professionals can feel uncomfortable promoting themselves in these new media. You don't have to force yourself to develop an outgoing personality that feels fake. Here is just one example of the way you can use easy techniques to maximize your impact. We can use an example based on a composite from some real business owners."Caroline" knew she ought to create teleseminars and videos. But she was shy. With an artistic background, she had little experience in speaking to groups. One-to-one, over coffee, she was articulate and charming. But ask her to give a talk or a class and her personality disappeared. Some mentors suggested working on her speaking skills and confidence. That's good advice but you need time.Additionally, Caroline wanted to be authentic. She's just not a joke-telling, outgoing speaker. One solution involves creating a script that lets you showcase your own communication styles. You can turn your natural style into a marketing asset by thinking outside the box.For example:(1) Use an interview format.Get a business coach or find a friend who is an experienced speaker and interviewer. A good interviewer will help you relax and you'll share more of who you are, not some imaginary self you think you should be. When I interview guests, I call the interview successful when they say, "Wow - I shared more than I usually do!"(2) Show yourself in action.Set up a video camera while you are working with a client, organizing a closet, or training a dog.Keep the sequence short and lively. A 10-step process works with an instructional video; for promotion, choose the 2 most interesting steps.(3) Tell a story.Instead of talking about your business, create a story to illustrate just one point you want to make. You may want to promote your skills or demonstrate that you offer high quality service. And here's an extra tip, based on what I'm learning in my improv acting class. When you practice, experiment in two ways. Practice as yourself, speaking from your own voice. Then imagine you are someone else with a strong personality. You can choose a client, associate or even a character from television or film.As you "get in character," you will loosen up, generate energy and maybe find some new content altogether.
