Being your own boss has so many advantages. You can make as much money as you want, set your own hours and pretty much call your own shots. The best part is that you dont have to answer to anybody. Plus, you are building something for yourself. All of the time and energy that you invest is coming right back to you! Who wouldnt love that?
Yes, life as a self-employed entrepreneur is appealing on so many levels. And with the countless opportunities out there more and more people are looking to create a successful Internet business.
But being the boss of a successful Internet business does have a few drawbacks.
Because now, you are self-employed. With a regular 9 to 5 J.O.B., you pretty much know when you are getting paid and how much youll get that week. I would never say that you have job security, but you do know what you are going to get...for the most part.
However, thats not true with the entrepreneur...especially if you are just starting to build a successful Internet business. Earnings can be erratic and inconsistent. It definitely takes a strong stomach in the early days to handle those ups and downs.
A J.O.B also comes with a job description...you know what to do, what your duties are and the expectations. As an entrepreneur, you dont necessarily know how to be the boss. A lot of times we just set sail on a mission of personal and financial freedom without any idea of what it takes to run a successful Internet business.
Also,when you work for yourself, youre definitely more motivated to be successful. You dont think twice about putting in long hours and taking on an enormous work load. Sometimes self-employed people are hesitant to take a vacation for fear of lost business. Or they work ridiculous hours trying to be all things to all people.
This is especially true if you have a successful Internet business.
You can work from anywhere that has an Internet connection. Its convenient and has its perks, but sometimes it can be difficult to unplug.
I say all of this to say that if youre not careful, you can set yourself up to be chained to your business and wake up one day to find that you are working a J.O.B.
Well that defeats the purpose. We wanted to own a successful Internet business for the freedom and the time to enjoy the things and the people that matter to us most.
So as you are building your business, its important to remember to take some time to unplug, enjoy life and keep your sanity. So here are just a few suggestions of some fun activities that you can incorporate into your day that will help put a break in the work cycle:
-Go to the Movies...movies are a great escape! I just saw Ted...a funny movie about an obnoxious teddy bear. It was a fun diversion and now Im back and ready to focus.
-Read a Great book-the good kind...you know...what I like to call beach trash. Nothing intellectual here...just something fun and juicy!
-Set a Play Date-Being the boss is no excuse to neglect your friends. Schedule time to meet your favorite people for coffee and fun!
-Workout-Exercise is a great stress reliever and its good for you! Walking, rollerblading and biking are great ways to get moving and get away from that desk!
All work and no play is no fun! With these few simple tips you can build a successful Internet business without losing your mind.
