Creating A Victorian Garden

The British are well known for their style and creativity

. They have given us some great art, wonderful architecture, amazing fashions... and who can forget the magic of The Beatles? But their creative flow did not end there. Even today they can offer us some amazing products that are so undeniably and quintessentially British.

Victorian England is something of which the British are still incredibly proud; and rightly so. The architecture of this period was beautiful and the amount of ornamentation in Victorian designs was truly stunning. Many British companies are now reproducing Victorian styles in their ranges because they are still so popular amongst many of their customers.

Jewellery, clothing and ornaments are all being recreated in this distinctive style. Even Victorian glasshouses can be purchased, giving a thoroughly stylish and antiquated feel to any garden. They are graceful structures that have a wonderful decadence fitted as standard!

Anyone who wants to give their garden a distinctive look cannot go far wrong with one of these remodelled glasshouses. Using a Victorian theme for your garden will give it a thoroughly charming feel and it will not break the bank either! Victorian glasshouses are very reasonably priced to begin with. After you have one of these, there are plenty of other little touches that will build on that turn of the century look.

How about planting some box hedging in your garden? The Victorians used this around many of their stately homes and you can even copy one of their designs when you are setting it all out. It is very easy to grow and it will totally transform your garden.

When it comes to flowers, there are some that are undeniably English. Roses are a must along with the likes of primroses, pansies, wallflowers and tulips. The English may come across as being a little reserved, but they are certainly bold and colorful enough when it comes to their flower beds!

During the Victorian era, Britain was also famous for The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. This was an incredibly talented group of painters and craftsmen (and women!) who used a painstaking amount of detail in their work. This style of art is still very popular in England and it is possible to find some beautiful reproduced statues that will look lovely in a Victorian styled garden. You can also find a selection of tiles in the designs of William Morris and Rennie Macintosh. Many of these will be weatherproof and can easily be incorporated into any outdoor structures.

A Victorian style looks lovely in a garden and it will certainly set you apart from the rest of the neighborhood. But be warned, English Victoriana can also be very addictive! Once your garden is finished, you may well find yourself using the same ideas inside your home. This is not a bad thing at all, but you had better make way for stacks of classic English novels and you may well find yourself wanting to cook roast beef with Yorkshire pudding...
