Creating Proper Images For Catalog Printing by:Lynne Saarte
Creating proper and usable images for your catalogs is important for any catalog printing campaign
. You catalog images can be a tricky issue for your layout designer as well as your catalog printer. Most of them want images with certain set properties and compositions so that they can do their jobs well enough for a successful catalog printing campaign.
Here are a few of the several concepts that you need to know about in creating proper images for catalogs. Know these things well before sending images to your layout artist or catalog printer.
High resolution images:
The first major concept that you must know about is the image resolution. Most digital images today have a property known as its resolution. This is basically a function of its quality based on the number of dots or pixels that comprise the whole image. This is important in most printing tasks, especially of course for catalog printing since you will have to print several images heavy pages in that print medium. As a standard rule for most printing jobs the higher the resolution of your images, the better your catalogs will appear. So always take high resolution images of your products if possible.
Use flattering lighting:
In terms of the composition of your images, you must always take into account the product's lighting as you take their pictures. A lot of mistakes in catalog printing happen when a catalog has pictures of products in an unflattering light. Even just a change of artificial light versus natural light, or maybe even the effects camera flashes can change the look of a product for better or for worse. You must keep your product images composed with the best possible lighting conditions so that the products have a higher chance of success in attracting people. If you can, try to hire a professional photographer to take your product images. He or she should be able to produce the best lighting conditions that are apt for your products.
Try different angles:
While we are in the subject of photographic elements, another property that is crucial in image composition is the angle of the camera. Subtle changes in the camera's angle when taking pictures have different effects on the image of your products. Angles have the ability to make things look smaller, bigger, simpler or more impressive. This is because angles can changes our perspective of the products, which in turn changes our opinions about their nature. Again, a professional photographer would be the best person to ask on the best camera angles for your products. As a general rule though, it is best to use different angles for your products, just so that they will not appear boring.
Take action shots:
Besides different angles, you may also want to take action shots of your products. This is a good way to display a product in a catalog since people can see how your product is used or is worn. Of course not all products can be taken like this, especially if you advertise a lot of things in your color catalogs, all the action shots may not fit its dimensions. However, your best or flagship products should be a prime choice for this kind of image. If you can, try including models in your shots so that people can actually see persons using your products.
Understand these concepts closely and mark them in your memory as you make your catalog images. Not only will these concepts increase the appeal of your products in your catalogs, it will also improve the overall look of your catalogs making it look more professional and special. So always use proper images for your catalog printing designs. You will not regret the benefits that it gives to catalogs.
