Do you like the idea of selling information products but feel intimidated by the work involved

In traditional publishing, bigger tends to be better - in part because publishers get to charge more if the book has more pages. For the reader, though, there's a diminishing return. They have to work harder at getting through their new tome - and find the information they bought it for in the first place. Plus they have to pay more.

In information marketing, that same trend can be observed. There are huge video courses with all sorts of bells and whistles - and it seems as if they get graded by the pound. Most people though end up never watching those videos and their investment is essentially money down the drain.

So what could be the solution? Create what people actually want. Specifically what they want, without all the padding. And then sell it for a low and affordable price. That's a great recipe for information product success.

In order to do so, you'll have to take a few steps in order:

1) Find your market

First, you need to find a market that is desperate for some helpful information. You can use Amazon and Google to do some of your research. You could also check out relevant forums to find out what people want.

2) Find your market's urgent questions

Next, find out what exactly your market wants to know. You're aiming for narrowly defined problems that you can solve in a relatively short how-to guide.

3) Write your how-to guide

Write up your how-to guide, making sure that you provide the answers that your audience wants. Maybe even include a quick Q&A section.

4) Write a sales letter

Write a sales letter where you address your target audience directly, remind them of their problem, and then offer them the solution- in your handy how-to guide.

5) Set up your sales letter and product

Set up your sales letter on its own domain name, upload the product and the download page. Also set up an autoresponder to capture the information of your new customers, and to deliver the product. This will also enable you to follow up with them and sell them any additional products you might create for that market.

6) Get the word out

Finally, get the word out about your new how-to guide. Let your list know if you have one, tweet about it, write articles about it, publish press releases, and so on. And start seeing orders come through

7) Wash, rinse, repeat

You're done with your first product, but why stop there. Your new target market probably has more questions, so create another report to answer another question. Also, you don't have to limit yourself to just one market. Find another one and start all over again.
