Your first decision involves the bracelet itself. These chains are usually fairly plain, with large links that make attaching new charms easy for the wearer. The chain can be silver, gold, or platinum, depending on the recipient's preference or your spending plans.

Once you have selected the right chain, then you should find charms that mean something special to the wearer. Often, the first choice for gift-givers is a charm that contains the birthstone of the recipient. This is an excellent idea, because it does indicate that you know the person well enough to know when her birthday is. As with the bracelets, these charms can be crafted from gold, platinum, or silver. If you do select a birthstone charm, then you will find that there are hundreds of designs that employ precious gems, but you can also find less expensive versions that employ rhinestones.

If your loved one is a teen, then charms that refer to favorite after-school and extra-curricular activities are a favorite.
