Cricket Clothing - The Basics to the Full Outfit
Cricket Clothing - The Basics to the Full Outfit
Every sport has its uniform and that uniform includes different pieces of clothing like t-shirt, shorts, pants, helmets, gloves, socks, shoes and protective gear, etc. These pieces of clothing are essential for a sports player. We will take you through the entire cricket uniform right from the undergarments to the top layer clothing.
Undergarments
Cricket undergarments are especially manufactured so as to protect the lower part of the body of the cricketers. The underwear or underpants has a pouch in the front for safety and extra comfort. Cricket balls are delivered by the bowlers at high speed and can hurt a lot if they hit some sensitive part of the body. These undergarments come in the form of underwear, underpants or trunks. Underpants and trunks cover the lower abdomen area and the upper parts of the legs as well. They should be worn in appropriate sizes so as to provide proper protection.
Shirts, Sweaters, Chest And Elbow Pads
Other important pieces of clothing are cricket shirts and t-shirts that are essentially the part of the uniform. These shirts usually have quarter length arms or sometimes full arms, and are made from polyester and are lightweight. Along with the shirt, a chest pad is also worn by the cricketers. This pad is worn to protect the front portion that is the ribcage, heart and lungs, of the cricketer from direct impact of the cricket ball. Also, elbow pads are worn to protect the arms and the elbows. Cricket balls can even be delivered by bowlers at the rate of 160 km/hr. and can cause irreversible damage if accidentally hit on the chest of a cricketer. Sometimes, when the weather becomes chilly, then full sleeved or sleeveless sweaters are also worn.
Trousers, Thigh Pads And Leg Pads
Next important pieces of clothing are the Trousers and Thigh Pads. The trousers should be lightweight and comfortable to wear. They should be of perfect fit, neither loose nor tight. These trousers usually have fully elastic waistbands for extra comfort and ease of use. Thigh pads are also worn underneath the trousers to protect them. Even leg pads are worn above the trousers to protect the shin bone from damage.
Socks, Shoes And Supportive Heels
Socks and shoes are very important part of a cricket uniform. The socks should be comfortable and fit tight. Also, the cricket shoes have spikes at the bottom to help the cricketer avoid skidding and slipping on the turf or the pitch. Cricket shoes also have supportive heels and toes that are necessary while running across the pitch.
Hats And Helmets
Hats and helmets are also part of the cricket uniform . Cricket hats are worn while fielding and sometimes by batsmen during batting. Helmets are usually worn by batsmen to protect their face and head from the ball. Also, wicket-keepers and fielders at short-leg and other near-by players also wear helmets.
