Cruising Tips For A Grand Vacation

Cruising can be a great vacation for family and friends

. It will be a memorable trip for everybody regardless of their age, right from toddlers to grandparents. If this is your first time cruising, you can contact a travel agent and ask him all details regarding the cruise. A cruise maybe an adventure for many people, but if you are not careful, small expenses will add up and you will end up burning a hole in your pocket. Now that you have decided to board the ship, here are some tips guaranteed to make this trip a cheap yet unforgettable experience.

How much can you afford?

The most important point that needs to be given a lot of thought is your budget. Decide how much you are willing to spend on the trip, well ahead. The budget will completely depend on how long you want your trip to be, and how many people are vacationing. Once you answer these questions, it will be easy to estimate how much money needs to be spent on average. If you have high expectations on your trip, it is best to leave the details to a travel agent or a professional cruise specialist. But you also need to keep in mind that going via a travel agent will increase your expenditure.

Types

There are a variety of cruises for you to choose from, such as Family Cruise, Short Cruise, Gay Cruise, Discount Cruise, Traditional Cruise and much more. Decide the one that is best suited for you and your family/friends.

Research

Now that you know how long you are going to spend on your vacation, you can narrow down your search by selecting the places to visit within the time limit. Next, check all the cruise lines that sail towards your destination, and pick out the cheapest ones. Many cruises offer additional advantages such as shore excursions, scuba diving lessons, side trips, and lots more; sign up for the ones that interest you. Doing your research, comparing and booking online is a great way to save money and energy. This way you know you are getting the best deals. Although doing your research will be less expensive, it requires some effort and time.

Off peak

The best deals can be found in the off peak season. Don't expect to find great deals on school holidays and during Christmas. To make the deals cheaper, book very early or very late. Some cruises take up booking almost a year in advance. The same goes for shore excursions, since they also fill up fast. Taking last minute cruises is also a nice way to save some bucks, although risky, it is well worth the try. If you know the exact dates of your vacation, this can be an added advantage.

Documentation

This is another very important aspect when it comes to cruising. Make sure all your travel documents are up-to date. If need be, take your passport and other documents of identification. Keep all these in your hand bag or carry ons, and not in your luggage. Make two copies of your passport, credit cards etc. When you leave the ship on your trip, you can keep one with you at all times and the other set in a safe spot in the ship.

Meals

Most of the meals are 24/7 and free, make the most of this opportunity. For breakfast, lunch and dinner you can go to many different food places on the ship, try different cuisines and order food for free, all day long. Some ships even have a 24-hour buffet, to cater to the needs of guests. Drinks such as water, milk, coffee and juice are free. To save money eat all your meals in the ship, not at the ports.

Things to pack

These do not include the usual items such as clothes, tooth brush, shoes, makeup etc.

1.Binoculars come in handy when you are on a cruise. You can see various sights and wildlife from a distance.

2.Camera, extra batteries and a charger are a must for beautiful memoirs.

3.Pack sunblock and sun glasses to avoid sunburns.

4.Medication or prescriptions are a must; hand sanitizer and a small first aid kit will always come in handy.

5.If your schedule takes you through different climates, make sure to pack clothes accordingly.

6.Throw in some plastic bags, as you will need them to bring back your dirty laundry.

7.Pack make up and other toiletries in separate ziploc bags, so that they do not leak and cause a mess.

8.A flashlight in case of emergencies is a good idea.

9.Hats and umbrellas will be very useful if you are out in the hot sun.

10.Last but not the least, don't go overboard while packing - pack sensibly and exactly what you need.

Enjoy your experience and have a blast!
