Cutting Umbilical Cord Tips

Nowadays, the procedure of cutting the umbilical cord has been changed

. In the past years, it was traditionally cut right after the delivery. Yet, the research which has been carried out lately shows that immediate cut is not necessity. However, it compromises the health of the baby since it is able to deprive the full blood supply.

For cutting the umbilical cord, there are some ways you can do. The first thing is to educate yourself about the cord cutting while preparing for the birth. Immediate cutting is not proven to provide your baby the benefits but it is only to speed up the cord falling off process and getting weight. On the other hand, recent study shows that immediate cord cutting will reduce the red blood cells transfer to your baby of up to 50 percent.

The second step you have to do is to think about all the possibilities of delaying the cord clamping if your baby is prematurely born. Waiting to cut the umbilical cord for about a minute, you could protect your baby from the low birth weight baby against any condition such as late-onset sepsis and intraventricular hemorrhage which can cause an infection.

The third step you can do is to consult your doctor or midwife about any preference for cutting the umbilical cord of the baby. You should not be intimidated to the evidence that delaying cord cutting will be best for your baby and that it is able to reduce the risk of anemia in the first year of baby's growing.

The last thing you have to do is to take the responsibility of the decision for the birth of the baby and the procedure of cord cutting. If your baby is healthily born, you will not need to cut the cord right away. Naturally, the cord will stop pulsing in three or five minutes. During that time, you could take your baby up to your chest and enjoy your first precious moments.
