There is nothing better than walking holidays. There are good for you, and can save you a lot of money. They are also good if your really want to soak up a little bit of atmosphere. Obviously, it is better to take your walking holidays in cities that are not too big, otherwise you will be walking forever. Manchester is a good size of a city, with enough of a heritage that you will not feel cheated by going through there. If you fancy somewhere a little bigger or with a little more history then why not try Paris. Family cycling holidays in France are all the rage at the moment and are just as good for you as walking is.

Manchester can boast of having given birth to the first Industrial Revolution and one of the first railroads in the world. It was the first to link the two cities, Manchester and Liverpool, at Liverpool Street station. Now the station is no longer in use and its spaces are occupied by MOSI the Museum of Science and Industry, one of the major attractions of the city. A visit there may make you forget of family cycling holidays in France. Few also know that Manchester has England's oldest library, which was frequented (at the time) by Marx and Engels, the people who split the atom for the first time in Rutherford. It was also frequented by professor at Alan Turing whilst attending the University of Manchester. It was there that he built the first prototype of a computer.

The monument is certainly the symbol of Manchester is called the Manchester City Hall or City Hall. It has a clock tower that is reminiscent of the Big Ben in the capital London. On your holiday, you may also see swarms of employees who spend their lunch break having a chat on the benches and on the steps of the Albert Memorial.

The Manchester Cathedral is another must see a medieval church that was bombed during the Second World War during the Manchester Blitz and damaged by the IRA bomb of 1996. Here today we celebrate not only the religious ceremonies but the building is also home to various events and concerts, mostly classical music and gospel, but not limited to them. Another building not to be missed is the John Ryland's Library, the library located in a Victorian Gothic mansion, which opened to the public in 1900. Among the books and scrolls on display, there is even the Gutenberg Bible.
