DVD packaging is more important than you think. The purpose of DVD packaging is not simply to protect the discs inside but also to make the product appealing and to create an image or brand. DVD packaging is the first thing we notice- actually, the only thing we notice- when we go shopping for DVDs. Therefore, your DVD packaging should market your product from the artwork to the copy! Whether you have a film, a promotional DVD, a demo reel, a presentation, make sure that your DVD packaging is catchy enough to get the attention of your target market.

Here are some of the essentials of a good DVD packaging:

DVD packaging should reflect your product. Your DVD packaging should symbolize and reflect the content of your DVD. You know a DVD packaging is effective when in just one look you can identify somehow identify the contents. A solid and coherent concept is very important if you want to create a brand.

DVD packaging should help create your brand. This is ultimately important to promotional DVDs. When conceptualizing the DVD packaging for your promotional DVDs, make sure that the colors, the artwork, the copy, and even the texture help develop your company and your product's image. For example, if your company is selling herbal supplements and you want to create an image that you're organic, natural, eco-friendly, then you might want to package your DVDs in eco wallets and seal it with a sticker rather than using jewel cases and shrink wrap. The artwork should exude the same characteristics that you want your products to have. If you're selling cleanliness and wellbeing, translate that to your DVD packaging.

DVD packaging should contain important information. Choose the most essential things you want to include in your DVD packaging (website URL, short summary, reviews, awards) and lay them out strategically so everything still looks good. You have to be selective of the content because we do not want to overload the main panels with too much info. Highlight the website URL because that's a very important follow through.

DVD packaging should have excellent copy. I do not think I have to elaborate this one but I just want to include it anyway because I've seen plenty of DVD packaging with very poor copy. The spelling may be okay and the grammar may be flawless, but some just don't know how to choose the right words for their brand. Some use words that are too technical or some just choose difficult' sounding words to sound smart. Choose words that are smooth and easy to read to maintain the reader's attention.
