So much so that no matter what style of dancing you enjoy, this should be part of your regular dancing kit.

In saying that, the reason why so many big stars were wearing the outfit is due to the flexibility and style that comes from wearing the leotard whilst performing or rehearsing. Most dance leotards are made from a mixture of cotton and lycra, which allows for a great deal of flexibility and movement. Regardless of what dance discipline you enjoy, you will be making a lot of twists and turns and it is good to know that your outfit can stand up to any rigorous workout.

The cotton element of the leotard also helps to keep the wearer cool, even when they are carrying out a rather physical routine. Not only do dance leotards need to stay in shape, they need to be tough enough to withstand regular use and wear and tear. With rehearsals and performances coming thick and fast for many dancers, leotards will be getting worn on a regular basis. Most dancers retain a supply of leotards to provide themselves with a level of variety but inevitably people will have a favourite outfit or two. This outfit will need to be able to stand up to regular use and punishing routines.

The reason why a leotard may become a person's favourite piece of clothing could lie in the cut, the style or the colour of the leotards. Although some people may just view dance leotards as being the same, there are many differences which can impact on the suitability of the outfit. The cut at the back can differ greatly with high backs and different straps offering variety when it comes to the look and comfort of the leotard. Depending on your body shape, you may feel more comfortable with a particular shape at the back of your outfit or you may like the extra support additional strips offer.

Considering that presentation is also a very important factor in any dance competition, the colour of the dance leotards may have a large impact on the best leotard for you. If you are performing as part of a dance troupe or ensemble, it may be that you need to consider the overall cast and choose a leotard that blends in and compliments the overall look. If you are competing as a solo dancer, standing out from the crowd is of benefit but if you want to be seen as a team performer, you need to co-ordinate your look with that of the team's.
