Dancing With The Stars Controversy: Did Tea Party Votes Help Bristol Palin
?
Her mom is arguably the most famous (or infamous) politician in the world right now and she's already been the target of controversy when she became a mom herself at the age of 18.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world of Bristol Palin.
Bristol Sheeran Marie Palin was born on the 18th of October 1990, and is the second child and eldest daughter of former Alaska Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Recently, controversy arose around her appearance on the US television show, Dancing With The Stars. Bristol Palin frequently received inferior scores from the judges compared to those received by her fellow competitors, but the public vote kept her on the show week after week.
This seemingly anomalous occurrence caused a lot of media interest and speculation. Some pundits even wondered if the voting system had been compromised in some way. Network executives, however, confirmed that nothing appeared different compared to other years' voting and that there were a series of checks in place to prevent fraudulent activity in the voting process. Conrad Green, the show's executive producer, speculated that Bristol Palin may have received politically-motivated votes from her mother's supporters in the Tea Party movement.
Some public reaction to her success on Dancing With The Stars, however, was ominous. Death threats were made against her, and a suspicious white powder was delivered to the show, which turned out to be harmless. Nevertheless, security was tightened. It was even reported that a 67-year-old man in Wisconsin blasted his television with a shotgun, he was so incensed at her success.
Perhaps the most humorous reaction was from a member of the public who wrote to the Federal Communication Commission about a hug given to Bristol Palin by a member of the judging panel.
"No other dancer was called over for a hug," the viewer noted, then went on to claim that the embrace was "a signal for the GOP/Tea Party supporters of Sarah Palin to 'stuff' the vote for Bristol Palin, who on both dates had to be dragged over the dance floor." As a final insult, the writer revealed, "My 96 year old Mother-in-Law can dance better than Ms. PalinI want my Government to protect me the viewer from deceptive practices."
Bristol Palin eventually finished the competition in third place.
