Dane Cook doesn't mind poking fun at people - even when that means he'll be the brunt of his own joke

. Case in point - his new material revolves around the deaths of his parents, whom he lost within nine months of each other. For the star of the ISolated INcident Global Thermo Comedy Tour, the work is "cathartic," saying to MTV that his work taken from dark places makes his comedy of nearly two decades worth it. Talking to Fly Magazine, he added, "I can find comedy in these places that hurt me deeply, and if I can go to the shop of stand-up and work on these things and pour myself into them in truth, then it will connect with people."

The result has overwhelmed audiences and himself, keeping Cook positive about the jokes that his parents shared with him during their final days. Rather than reuse content from his previous albums, this tour spawning jokes from the Top 10 Billboard 200 album awarded audiences with brand new material. With several multi-platinum albums, a successful movie career, sold out tours and the reinvention of a comic's status - going back to the days of Steve Martin in the late '70s - Cook has seen and done everything. The 37-year-old started making jokes early, but it wasn't until he was 18 that he really got the bug to do it professionally; now he's trying his hand at everything from a satiric film career to a musical one. Recently revealing to MTV News that he is working with Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee on a new "Jack Johnson vein, a little bit funky" single, the comedian-turned-actor-turned-musician is sure to see success in this next avenue.

The success for the second ISolated INcident Tour allowed him to visit Madison Square Garden for the New York Comedy Festival this November. The event is "one of the biggest collections of my favorite comedians in the best comedy city in the world," he said. The star beamed to New York Magazine earlier this year noting that Martin, the onetime king of comedy that Cook has since dethroned, was once his superhero. Admitting that Martin's own Madison Square Garden show was his first inclination that a career in comedy was his calling, Cook has since realized that his goal is to take comedy to the mainstream.

Born in Boston in 1972, he found success when he picked up a few solo appearances on David Letterman and Craig Kilborn's shows and earned an episode for Comedy Central Presents. The fame quickly continued with more commercial appearances, like on the Tonight Show and Crank Yankers, which allowed recordings for his debut Harmful if Swallowed by 2003. His follow-up album Retaliation was a Top 10 hit that eventually went platinum. Cook then started a successful movie career with roles in Employee of the Month and Good Luck Chuck before released his third and fourth sets, Rough Around the Edges: Life from Madison Square Garden and Isolated Incident.
