1) You need to approach this with an attitude of "let's see what happens."

You really don't want to approach the idea of dating an ex girlfriend with too serious of an attitude, simply because if you do come across like you want something serious with her again right away, you are likely to scare her off from the idea and if you do that, then you won't have a chance of things ever getting serious because you won't be dating her.

2) You also need to have an open mind about dating others beside your ex girlfriend.

Want to know why this is important? Because when you think of your ex girlfriend as the ONLY one that you would date, then you basically are putting her up on a pedestal as the perfect woman and when you do that, you are destined for failure. Making her seem like the only woman out there is not going to help you out any, so don't even bother with it.

3) Before you ask her out on a date again, you need to get the chemistry flowing.

Just because she dated you before, it does not mean that you should ask her out without doing anything before hand to try and build up her feelings for you. If you want to have the best chance of hearing her say yes to you, then you need to make sure that the chemistry is flowing between you and her and that she is on the brink of feeling like she really wants you. When you get her to that point, getting her to say yes is going to be pretty easy.
