Daughtry Tickets - Ringing The Bell For Charity
Chris Daughtry celebrated Thanksgiving the old-fashioned way: with some football
. Unconventional was how he celebrated - he and his group performed at halftime during the Cowboys' Thanksgiving Day game to over a million fans in the new Cowboys Stadium at Arlington, Texas. The annual event was part of a kickoff ceremony for the Salvation Army's 2009 Red Kettle Christmas campaign.
"Thanksgiving is a time for great traditions, like watching the Cowboys' game, giving thanks for the blessings in your life and remembering those less fortunate," said Daughtry to the Christian Post. "This year, the band will perform at the game during halftime and encourage people to generously support The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign, a fantastic charity that has a real impact on peoples' lives."
The group performed a variety of hits, including singles from their multi-platinum set Daughtry. It isn't just Daughtry that is playing a new role in the donation process. The Associated Press reports that the Red Kettle project is now offering potential donors the option to use plastic, as credit card machines have been placed next to the red device and bell swinging volunteers where parties can use their debit or credit cards to give donations to the Salvation Army.
Meanwhile, Daughtry is touring in support of the group's five-time platinum set as their first headlining arena tour. As one of the most successful rock acts of the American Idol alumni, frontman Chris Daughtry was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and began performing with rock groups at age 16 after relocating to Greensboro. Mature from a young age, Daughtry graduated from high school in 1998, married his girlfriend Deanna just months before the birth of their son Griffin and adopted her daughter from a previous marriage. The family man stuck to his rock 'n' roll with the group Absent Element and by 2005 auditioned for American Idol.
Daughtry remained a fan favorite during Season Five of the show, particularly as he was hailed a brilliant singer by all the judges and fellow rock stars. When he performed Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" the rockers from Fuel basically begged the singer to join them as their new frontman when he was done with the show (a request he politely declined when the finals aired two months later.) Though Katherine McPhee beat him to get into the final four, Daughtry remains the most successful of the season (even above winner Taylor Hicks).
The rocker signed with American Idol's 19 Entertainment group and RCA Records that summer, and released the album in November revealing that his sound had developed into the project titled under his last name. The lineup included Brian Craddock, Josh Steely, Josh Paul and Joey Barnes. The self-titled album was the fastest selling debut in SoundScan history at the time, charting five singles including "It's Not Over." The group released Leave this Town as a follow up, which included the hit "No Surprise."
