Day Trading Strategies -pt1
Daily Stock Report for Monday Morning, April 12
, 2010 pt1
US stocks had little change today but had a bullish sentiment today and spent most of the day on the plus side. The indexes ended up fractional percentage.
The Volatility Index is returning towards its low and this is considered as the Fear Index.
The European Union finally made an agreement to provide financial aid to Greece and that helped drive the dollar, which made it easier for stocks to move up. US stocks were at 52 week highs but had very low volatility as some cautiousness was evident before the earnings season begins.
The aid package finally ends speculation over what the size and type of aid will be offered and this should end the fears of a country defaulting on their debt, at least for a while. We still do have the Portugal, Spain and now Italian situation to deal with, as far as market influences are concerned with.
We will see some of the big banks report earnings this week and that will be interesting as the government aid in the last year is taking effect with the profits, which is likely going to be excellent.
The forecasts for earnings is a 36% gain over last years 1st quarter earnings, which is a consecutive gain in quarter to quarter earnings. The theme that economic recovery is starting to take hold could be substantiated with good earnings to be announced the next 2 weeks.
We saw a buyout today, which mergers and acquisitions have been extremely infrequent in the past 9 months. Mirant, MIR, bought competitor RRI Energy.
We are still looking for stocks to continue a shallow uptrend with some volatility in this earnings season.
Scalp of the Day:
Not many good scalps today.
TIE, Titanium Metals moved up early on a buyout rumor and this short gave a potential profit of 2.7% around 945am eastern time Monday morning.
