Deciding Between A Whirlpool Bathtub And An Air Bath

Choosing a tub today can be confusing

Choosing a tub today can be confusing. With so many choices, jet sprays, bubble makers, Jacuzzi styles and even soaking baths, how does one even know where to start? Then once you decide what kind you want, you have to think about the size and how you'll install it. Deciding upon a whirlpool bathtub or an air bath depends upon what you need most from your tub.

If after a long days work all you can think about is massaging those sore muscles and joints, the whirlpool bathtub may be what you need. A pump pushes water out, which is then combined with air and forced out of the jets in the tub. You adjust the volume of the spray and can angle and swivel it to hit the right spot. The vigorous action with the jets give you your own customized massage.

If you prefer relaxing in the tub, sitting back and just need a gentle and soft massage, the air bath is your best choice. A blower pushes heated air through dozens of small air holes that are on the sides or bottom of the tub. You adjust the power, creating as many or as few bubbles as you need. These bubbles gently massage the soft tissues all over the body, unlike the whirlpool bathtub whose jets force the water at you. With the right tub, you may have the option of a pulse or wave feature also.

A combination bath can give you the best of both worlds; this type combines the whirlpool bathtub and the air bath, giving you the benefits of both in one tub. You'll have total control, maybe starting out with a vigorous massage using the jets and then relaxing with the soft bubbles afterward. Whatever you need that day, you'll get with this type of unit.

After you know what kind of bath you want, you have to think about where you want to install it. A 3-wall bath requires a rectangular bath, your choice of size. This is where you have three walls around the tub and the open part is then skirted in your choice of material to hide the bottom of the tub, so it blends nicely with the walls.

The drop-in method, or deck mount, requires a deck to be installed in the room with an opening for the tub. The tub will then be placed or "dropped-in" to the opening. With this, you can choose any size or shape of tub as the deck will be made just for that tub.

The undermount method is similar, but you need a tub that has a flat rim, and instead of putting the tub inside of a deck, you attach it underneath so the rim is not shown. This also allows you to choose any shape or size and provide a unique look to your bath decor.

If you are the type that doesn't like the bath near the wall and have a lot of room, a free standing tub may be to your liking. This can be placed anywhere you like it, and also comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. If you'd like to hide the underneath of it, a skirt can be added to this also.

Buying a tub today is like buying any other major appliance for your home; you need to research what will work best for you. Tubs today are nothing like the ones your grandparents used; today they massage you, relax you and make bubbles for you. There is nothing better than relaxing in a Whirlpool bathtub at the end of the day and letting the jets massage your worries away.
