Decorating Unusual Spaces

As you have seen if you are house hunting, many older homes aren't proportioned properly when it comes to room spaces

. Many may seem extremely difficult to decorate due to one wall being at a different angle then you're use to working with. Here are a few options when you are faced with an unusual space.

Most times, alcove areas will have bay windows with maybe window seats built in. If so this type of off set or alcove would be easy to spruce up or add to and make it flow into the bigger room. The first thing you might want to consider for decorating is cushions to sit on in the window seats. If there aren't any cushions, you can probably have some made or maybe even do it yourself, it you are handy with a sewing machine or a needle and thread. Make the cushions the primary color of the bigger room. If you can place curtains or valances over the windows, do those in a contrasting color and place a couple of throw pillows on top of the window seats.

If you have a larger area and you aren't quite sure how to decorate this space due to the lack of window seating you may get frustrated. Try finding a great area rug in a pattern or even in an animal print to place on the floors to soften the look as well as hanging crisscrossed window sheers across the ceiling to soften the spaces features. Area rugs are a great way to make a rooms appearance change drastically without having to spend a fortune.

Children's rooms are another great way to create a unique shape into something fantastic. Try using this little nook area as a great table setting. You're little one can either use it as a great tea party area or as an arts and crafts table for coloring and other little projects they may be interested in doing. Just make sure to place an area rug underneath this area so it is protecting the flooring which is underneath from any damage which can occur in children's rooms.

Another great way to make this little offset addition in the room look like it's a piece of the design try adding a great chair in the area. Placing a great large chair in this area you'll feel as if you can just sit there and curl up to read a book. No matter what type of nook you have in your room you'll always find something to place in this spot but it might not be right away so don't give up.

If this is in a basement or even in another room which you have a gym like area set up, place the treadmill or bike in this area. It will give you a great view to admire as you run. It might just be the right inspiration to keep you motivated to work out even longer.
