For example, try putting lit candles on both sides of your stairs.

However, although this looks beautiful, bear in mind the potential fire hazards.

It will speak for an extension of the luminous domain you created for your house.

More creative ideas for Christmas candles

Add a Christmas holiday glow with these easy-to-do ideas:

1. Get a handful of candle holders, both the same size and colour, and fill them with scented candles. You can then use them to encircle a centrepiece on your table, or put them in a line on your mantelpiece or shelf.

2. Try using jars to make candle holders. You can fill them with cranberries or coffee beans and put your candles inside. Tie holiday ribbons to each jar. Wires can also be wound around the neck for easy hanging.

3. Create a base for plain candles from holly leaves, intertwined with other types of leaves, coffee beans or cinnamon sticks, or anything else which is festive. When attaching the candle, keep flammable material at the lower third of the scented candle, away from the flame.

4. A woodland-style candle centrepiece is perfect for Christmas time. Fill a wooden bowl with woodland items such as moss, rocks, pine cones, mistletoe and holly and secure your candle inside.

5. Add a fruity feel to your candles by choosing similar sized apples and mini pumpkins, cut a hole in the centre of each, just large enough to hold a candle. Using a wooden tray as the base, fill in the spaces with cranberries, orange slices and nuts. Some holly berry, or pine twigs will finish it off nicely.

Scented candles offer imaginative ways to create a warm and inviting space during the Christmas holiday season and are an important part of people lives at this time of year.

But it is important to ensure safety to avoid potential fire hazards.Be sure to follow the some basic fire safety as you would with any other open flame.
