Decorative Hints Of Exoticism

When vacationing in foreign lands like Bali, Mexico or Morocco it's easy to see how

they incorporate colourful and graphic textiles into their homes and sense of personal style. However, when you live in a Western city like London and are expected to wear a suit to work everyday, it can be difficult to find ways to tie in a kaftan to your look or a multicoloured rug to your wood, marble and beige flat. 'But they are all so beautiful' you think to yourself when you see them ' I want them for myself'. I am here to tell you that you can have them if you wish, just give it a bit of thought and use them sparingly.

1. Save your kaftans for the beach:

Just because you have to wear a suit to the office it doesn't mean that you have to wear it on the weekends or on holiday. If you love the kaftans you saw in Morocco, pick up a few in your favourite colours and bring them on your next beach holiday, or brave them in the city when the weather is hot enough.

2. Accent your outfits with exotic accessories:

A patchwork bag might not go with your 'I'm in charge' pumps and Burberry trench coat, but a bright red Balinese scarf will. Or if you have the budget and the creativity, go for an entire coat in a fun print. Accessories are the area where people can afford to splash out, both financially and in terms of rules and regulations.

3. Colourful throws for your couches:

An ideal place to splash out on some colour and print for your home is in couch throws. Even if your flat is entirely beige an elaborate throw will give it the dose of vivacity it needs to come alive. Moreover, throws can be easily folded and put away for when you're wanting to return to your clean, sombre feel.

4. Rattan garden furniture sets:

Perhaps you'd like to keep your home as is but create something more rustic for your garden. Rattan garden furniture, a colourful hammock and some embroidered cushions will have your garden looking and feeling like an exotic destination in itself.

If bringing a taste of other, more exotic worlds into your home and fashion is what you're looking for, you can have it. It doesn't have to take over and it doesn't have to be expensive, just a few hints here and there and you're on your way to a brighter life.
