Defining Hair Loss in Men
Androgenic alopecia is the usual type of hair loss in men. It is commonly known as male-pattern baldness. It is determined by the high presence of androgens (male sex hormones) in a man's body and results in baldness of the scalp; it can be genetically acquired or passed on to succeeding generations of families.
Hair loss in men is often considered to be an undesirable state since it is a usual indication of old age, and more especially if abnormally experienced at an early stage or at a young age. Male-pattern baldness is actually due to the sensitivity of men's scalp to the presence of DHT (dihydrotestosterone). The enzyme 5-alpha reductase converts testosterone to DHT. The presence of DHT can cause the shrinking of hair follicles, which in turn can no longer carry out its task of growing hair. The hair follicles function as the base of each strand of hair as it goes through its growing stage (anagen) and resting stage (telogen). When a strand of hair takes longer being in the resting phase than the growing phase, the onset of hair thinning, and eventually hair loss, becomes apparent.
The hair loss condition of men usually starts at the age of 30. Hair loss in men typical takes the pattern of initially developing a receding hairline and followed by the thinning of hair at the top of the head. Both balding areas gradually meet, clearing the top half of the head from any hair. The bottom half of hair consists of thinner or finer strands and its rate of growth has significantly decreased.
These days, though, there's not much reason to fret since hair loss in men is a natural biological condition and, better yet, it can be prevented from further taking place. Aside from keeping the condition to worsen, there are also hair loss products that enable to regain lost hair. Experts in the field are there to provide more information about the condition and give helpful advice on what steps to take.
Hair loss in menor androgenic alopecia is probably the most extensive type of hair loss in almost all men all over the world. This is not considered a disease and is absolutely not life threatening. Androgenic alopecia is caused by the augmented sensitivity to male sex hormones which are androgens in specific areas of the scalp. Androgenic alopecia or commonly known as male pattern baldness is a proven relentless inherited condition that can be passed on from generation to generation.
