All assistants are required to work closely with dentists, though certain duties may vary with the level of experience and training. The certifications and individual has obtained, their level of experience and the job?s location all play a role in the determination of dental assistant wages.

The certifications that one has plays are distinct role in determining salary. Someone certified by the Dental Assistant National Board will make$2.40 more an hour than someone who is not currently certified. A great motivator for certification is that the chances of finding and landing a job increase significantly.

A dental assistant?s salary is directly related to the years of experience within the field. The average salary for assistants with under 5 years of experience is $15 per hour, where the assistants with over 10 years in the field, will easily make more than $20 an hour. As the saying goes, time is definitely money.

Location also is a major factor when it comes to dental assistant wages. Looking at the average dental assistant salary by state, it is clear that salaries vary from one place to the next. Due to differences in the cost of living, demand for dental assistants and other local factors, the salary ranges from $12 an hour in Ohio, to nearly $17 an hour in New York.

It should be clear that a certified and experienced dental assistant has the best chance of landing a high-paying job on the field than their less experienced and less qualified counterpart. Currently in high demand and offering years of career stability, there are many reasons why now is a great time to become a dental assistant. The dental assistant wages will only continue to increase in the years to come.
