Becoming a dental hygienist requires you undergo at least two years of training

Otherwise, an associate degree is typically all that is required to work in a private dental office. Keep in mind that school is only the beginning as you must pass state board exams as well. The American Dental Association Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations writes and administers the exam. Once you pass, you are given a license and can begin searching for the perfect dental hygienist job for you.

You could be charge of taking and developing x-rays and examining the mouth for anything abnormal. In some states, dental hygienist jobs include administering anesthetic to numb the gums and teeth in preparation for the placing and removing of fillings.

Many people with dental hygienist jobs work part-time. This is typically enjoyed because the hours are flexible. If you work in a school or public health office, however, you will probably be hired full-time. Many dental hygienists work in more than one office because each office may only require a hygienist a few days out of the week.
