Dental Veneers Can Give You A Perfect Smile
Do you know of anyone that was lucky enough to have his or her teeth grow in perfect formation
? I don't. In fact, everyone that I've ever met or gotten to know that had perfect teeth had purchased some form of cosmetic dentistry at some point in their life.
Perfect teeth used to come at a hefty price. Only the super rich could afford to buy a perfect, pearly-white set of choppers. Of course, that was the old days! This modern age makes a perfect smile much more affordable - practically anyone can have a perfect set of teeth by purchasing a set of dental veneers.
Dental veneers are nothing more than a facade for your teeth. They are an ultra thin piece of plastic that are glued onto the front of your real teeth. You get one piece for your upper set of teeth, and one piece for the lower set of teeth. Once they are installed, it will appear to the world that you have perfectly aligned and perfectly white teeth. The reality is, of course, that your real teeth are hidden in the background, out of view.
Veneers are available in three different types of material: plastic, porcelain, and ceramic. Which is best for you? That choice is yours, ultimately. Your dentist will help you make that decision based on your individual goals.
The early types of veneers required that your dentist remove a significant layer of enamel from the front of your teeth in order for them to be installed. Veneers have evolved since then and now require only a minimal amount of enamel to be removed from the front of a person's teeth.
One thing you should remember about getting veneers: once you get them, there's no going back! Even though the amount of enamel that is removed from the front of your teeth is quite minimal, it's enough to prevent you from returning to your natural teeth.
After your dentist trims the layer of enamel from the front of your teeth, he'll then take a mold of your newly trimmed teeth and send it to a dental lab so they can craft a custom set of veneers. It could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months for the lab to create your veneers. While you're waiting, you'll be wearing a temporary set. Of course, when your custom crafted veneers finally arrive, you'll have to visit the dentist again and have him install your permanent set.
If you take good care of your veneers, they should last you anywhere form ten to fifteen years at the most. It's important that you know going into the procedure that veneers do not last forever - you'll need to get them replaced sooner or later.
If you're curious about dental veneers, you should call your dentist and schedule an appointment. Only your dentist can provide you with the latest information regarding cosmetic dentistry procedures. Most dentists have computers with specialized software that can show you what your new smile will look like after purchasing veneers. If you can spend at least an hour talking with your dentist and reviewing what the procedure entails, you should have a good idea whether or not dental veneers are an ideal solution for your situation.
