Anyone can hold a DEMAT or depository account provided they hold a valid Permanent Account Number (PAN) card
. In addition to the PAN card, an identity proof, proof of age and a residence proof are also required for opening a DEMAT account in any bank. This is as per the directives set by the NSDL for the participant institutions. For a Non Resident Indian or NRI, there may be other documents that will be required. You can ask your financial advisor to guide you for the same or even open a depository account for you.
