Designing An Exotic Room Theme With Slipcovers And Pillows

There comes a time when the phrase "home sweet home" just doesn't cut it

. Sometimes what you really want is an escape from monotony, a place to go to remind you that there's a whole wide world out there full of adventure. That's when it's time to redecorate a room with exotic travel themes. Whether you have fallen in love with the calming simplicity in Asian design, or like to get lost in the intricacies of Moroccan carpeting and wall art, you can redesign your room to be an exotic getaway--a space within your home that still feels cozy but not quite as common. One easy way to start this transformation is by using slipcovers and new pillows on the furniture.

Slipcovers come in many different styles and colors. You need to find the fabric and design that best suits the theme. Green, beige, and tan colored cushion covers are great for a relaxing meditation inspired room. You can pair the soothing tones with mandarin orange, golden yellow or pink pillows to balance the palette. Solid colors, circles, and wavy lines are all favored in this freestyle dcor.

Another Asian-inspired room could go the other route and use hot tones and symmetrical lines. Japanese inspired rooms will feature a lot of basic color tines- red, black, white, and cherry-blossom pink. Don't be afraid to make the furniture slipcovers really stand out. A deep red couch with black and white pillows could be exactly what you need. You could even add paper lanterns to the side tables for an added effect. Or, if you want something more nature-inspired go with floral patterns. Cherry blossoms, trees, and waves are recurring themes in Japanese woodblock art and you can recreate them with pink or deep blue sofa covers.

For Moroccan themes, on the other hand, you'll want to use the colors midnight blue, magenta or rose red, violet, bright yellow, and emerald green. Moroccan themes rely on rich fabrics and some silky smooth textures. The pillows should have some kind of fringing for embellishment. The custom slipcovers you order should be one of the darker base colors and you can brighten the room with pillows and accessories of much brighter hues. Also, look for pillows with embroidery or jewels to go with whatever slipcovers you chose. It can add a bit of mystique to the seating.

These are just two of the more popular exotic room designs to be inspired by. There are plenty of others to select from. You can find inspiration in home magazines and online.
