Dhs Unveils Initiatives To Enhance E-verify Fact Sheet

Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has joined hands with Alejandro Mayorkas, the Director of U.S

. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to announce the public a trio of initiatives pertaining to the E-verify fact sheet. The purpose of these initiatives was to turn out the E-verify fact sheet into a more proficient system and making E-verify information available to the users.

The E-verify fact sheet is an Internet-based verification system which at present is used by nearly 100,000 employers to confirm electronically the employment eligibility of the newly hired employees.

The USCIS, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) have agreed to a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The MOA is by far the first initiative. This joint venture has been carried out mainly to organize the adjudication process in case of any misuse or fraudulent use of the E-verify fact sheet.

Further, an informational telephone hotline has also been set up as the second initiative. The employees queries or complaints will be addressed by this hotline which will take effect from April 5, 2010. The employees can place their queries to the respective customer service representative after selecting from the four options through Interactive Voice Response (IVR.) The IVR has two language options, namely English and Spanish.

Additionally, the Department of Homeland Securitys Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties in association with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has come up with two new training videos emphasizing on the E-verify system policies and procedures along with the E-verify civil rights of the employees and the employer responsibilities. Understanding E-Verify: Employer Responsibilities and Worker Rights, is one video in English which gives a clear vision on the employers responsibilities. The other video is Know Your Rights: Employee Rights and Responsibilities in English and Spanish, which is allied to the employees.
