Did You Backup Your Wordpress Blog Today? (what? You Don't Have One?)
Ahhh! What a good feeling
Ahhh! What a good feeling. I just backed up all my Wordpress blogs.
Of course it would have been better if I did it before some of them got hacked and infected. But nevertheless they are cleaned now, and all tucked in and cozy in their folders on my hard drive. Safe and secure.
Now I can relax knowing that if anything happens on the server I can simply replace the blog exactly as it was. That's because I did not use a Wordpress backup plugin.
That's right. I did *not* use a plugin.
Instead I created a clone. That way I can restore the entire Wordpress installation and all the content (posts, comments, and all) exactly as it was when I backed it up with one click.
------------------------------------------- Why So Many? -------------------------------------------
You may be wondering why I have so many Wordpress blogs. Well, I call them blogs because they use the Wordpress.org platform but most of them are really websites.
I don't update them very often like a real blog. I simply use Wordpress as the structure and template for the site.
This is by far the easiest way to set up a beautiful, high functioning website at this time.
I like using WordPress.org for several reasons:
------------------- It Works -------------------
The most important reason for using Wordpress is that it works so elegantly. It's fast and easy to install and there are seemingly infinite plugins to choose from - both free and premium. There are plugins for just about any functionality you want to add to your site. (Although, for backing up I don't recommend using a plugin.)
------------------- It Looks Good -------------------
You can get a WordPress website to look just how you want it. There are enough themes to cover just about any mood you want to convey with the presentation of your web presence. From serious business to flat out fun, you can usually find a look that works for you. And the best part is that these templates take literally seconds to install.
------------------- It's Easy -------------------
I also choose this platform because it is web based so I can access it from any computer and make changes or do updates without depending on software installed on my main computer. I can even post directly from my iPhone.
------------------- It's Free -------------------
I probably should have put this at the top of the list. Since Wordpress is free, you can set up as many of these as you like without a thought about your budget. That is nice.
Try it you'll like it.
It simply works for me in the fastest, easiest, and most economical way. And so, I am recommending it to you.
Since Wordpress is free and it's a snap to install on your domain, it just simply makes sense.
------------------- Backup Routine -------------------
And now that I've learned the hard way (which I hope you will never have to do!), I back up.
As part of my routine, I back up the site regularly (as I'm creating it and when I make a change or do a Wordpress update.)
------------------- When to Backup -------------------
Here are the times I recommend backing up a WordPress installation that does not receive new content regularly:
==> After adding and configuring plugins
==> After adding pages or posts
==> After 5 new comments have been posted
==> Before and after Wordpress updates
For blogs that are really blogs with frequent posts, I recommend backing up once a week. Pick a day and time and make it part of your routine. Add it to your calendar reminders. You will thank yourself.
And you'll sleep well at night knowing that you have all your blogs safely backed up at all times.
