Here are a few great stretches before starting your specific martial art:
1) Warm up First - Begin with get your blood flowing, jumping jack is a great start
2) Breathe Properly - This is important in any activity. When stretching breathe slowly through the nose, and hold it for a moment and then exhale through the mouth in order to get the best results from stretching.
3) Stretch consistently and regularly -Stretching should be done about four to six days per week. Stretching will reduce injuries. Make sure your stretching routine is done the same day every week.
4) Increase Strength and Flexibility together - When you are increasing strength it is always good to work on the targeted areas. For example flexibility in your legs.
5) Consider Mixing Stretching Within Workouts- When training in martial arts it is a good idea to stretch within workouts. It is not a good idea to stretch before warming up.
6) Stretching Caution -
Always check with your doctor before attempting any flexibility or training routine.
Stretching may cause a mild sensation or burning in muscles. It should not cause outright pain in your joints or muscles. If it does, stop and see a doctor.
Always stay hydrated when working out or stretching.
Depending on the type of stretch, you may be tightening your muscles during flexibility routines. Do not bounce, however.
Never begin stretching right after you wake up. You're not warmed up enough yet.
