The emulation of western fashion by the eastern fashion resulted in what we call today as Asian street fashion
. A number of Asian countries have been influenced by this genre of fashion. One such country is Japan. Japanese fashion is highly influenced by street fashion. One of the reasons being the youth who are so much influenced by the western clothing, that they want a blend of both traditional and western fashion in their clothing. To meet this need a lot of innovative dresses have been made and although styles have changed over the years, you will still find people wearing these dresses.
In Japan, you will find a large number of young adults wearing these Asian street fashion even in the large urban fashion districts such as Harajuku, Ginza, Odaiba, Shinjuku and Shibuya. The different attires that you will find people wearing are mainly Lolita, Gyaru, Bosozoku, Visual Kei, Dolly Kei.
Lolita which is the most versatile dress contains a lot of themes within its boundaries. It has become of the larger, more recognizable styles in Japanese street fashion. It is now gaining interest worldwide. The more well styles within Lolita fashion are Gothic Lolita, Sweet Lolita, Punk Lolita and Classic Lolita. Gothic Lolita is mainly influenced by the Eastern and Victorian Goth styles. Sweet Lolita is most childlike style, mostly characterized by baby animals, fairy tale themes innocent, childlike attire. Punk Lolita is an experimental style mixing the influences of punk with Lolita. Classic Lolita is very traditional. It is very mature and business like and focuses on light colors like blue, green and red.
Gyaru sometimes known as ganguro originated in the 1970s. gyaru is a huge uproar of girly glam style and it dwells on manmade beauty like wigs, fake nails etc. it is highly inspired by western fashion. The gyaru look is varied and is not limited to blonde hair and tanned skin. It typically includes brightly colored outfits, miniskirts and tie dyed sarongs.
Many forms of Japanese media such as anime, manga and films have portrayed bosozoku. They are usually worn open, with no shirt underneath, showing off bandaged torsos and matching baggy pants tucked inside tall boots. Visual kei is a style created in the mid 80s by Japanese musicians consisting of striking makeup, unusual hair styles and ostentatious costumes similar to western glam rock and glam metal. Dolly kei is a newly emerging style based on Japanese view of the Middle Ages and European fairy tales. It includes a lot of vintage skirts, dresses etc. and sometimes has religious symbols.
