Different Types Of Massage Therapy And Why They Are Beneficial
There are many benefits from massage
There are many benefits from massage. Different cultures around the world rely on massage therapy to rid them of aches and pains-all that ails them. When people sustain different types of injuries, they may need to have different types of massage therapy performed. Here are just a few of the many different types of massage therapy.
1. Swedish massage-this is the most commonly known massage technique or therapy. Typically, this is considered relaxation massage. You don't have to endure any pain or injury in order to need Swedish massage. It is simply kneading the muscles with long, semi-deep strokes, allowing a person to feel less tense and restricted in movement.
2. Deep tissue massage-this is the second most requested massage therapy. Deep tissue massage focuses on deep tissue layers and the connective tissues. Deep tissue massage is typically performed on those who have endured injury or accident with injury. Many sporting athletes get deep tissue massage to help their muscles bounce back from overuse during athletic events.
3. Reflexology-this is a form of massage therapy that uses the feet to help cure issues with other parts of the patients body. Every major system in your body can be traced to a different part of your foot. It can also be beneficial for people who have foot pain and are on their feet frequently because of work or extracurricular activities.
4. Shiatsu-this is a form of Japanese massage that focuses on pressure points on the body. Pressure points are held for a period of time and energy is released back into the body. This blocked energy will allow your body to return to a state of balance.
There are number of other types of massage therapy-these are some of the most common. Always speak to your physician before going to see a massage therapist.
Massage Therapy-when It's Beneficial
The benefits of massage are many. When some people think of massage- especially those people who have never had one, they think of it as some luxurious treat that the rich and famous pamper themselves with when they have nothing else to do with their money. While part of that statement may be true, there are numerous therapeutic benefits to getting a massage.
In fact, many sports teams employ an entire staff of massage therapists. Sports medicine includes a lot of massage work. Over the years, it has been proven that massage therapy can improve the chances of an athlete who has been injured of returning to the sport quicker and in many cases, helps prevent any further injury.
You don't have to be a professional sportsman to get benefits from massage, though. Infant massage has really made its way into the mainstream over the past several decades. It's often difficult to diagnose the cause of a baby who appears to have colic. The infant may scream and shriek for no apparent reason and in many cases, massage therapy has proven the only way to bring comfort to the infant.
People who have sustained back injuries or other injuries that are related to accidents, particularly slips and falls or car accidents, have found much pain relief from massage therapy when conventional medicine seems to have failed them.
By releasing swelling and tension in muscles, many times injuries to ligaments and bones are minimized. The pain in many injuries stems from swelling and manipulation of the muscle groups may eliminate or at least relieve the pain from said injuries.
Massage therapy is good for your mind, as well. When you're walking around with tension aches and pains, it can be completely miserable. Your mental status is very much affected by your physical condition so do your body a favor and get a massage when you are feeling poor.
