Furniture plays a big role in feng shui. Aside from the furnitures shape and size; color and the way your dining room furniture is place in your house can cause harmony and strife.

Furniture such as beds, tables, chairs, bookshelves and cupboards plays a big role in feng shui. Their location and their relation with other furniture in the room may contribute to owners success and failures. Bad arrangement can cause anything from lethargy or illness to career or marriage problems. Lets look at a three key important pieces that we probably all have in our family homes.

Focusing more on dining room furniture, the dining table itself should be in proportion to the dining rooms size. It should not be too large or too small. Excellent shapes are round, square and rectangle, shapes, though the round table is the best as this shape is encouraging the flow of chi between family members who eat there. Although many feng shui experts say to avoid square and rectangular dining tables as they limit you to only four directions.

Dining tables made from wood is preferred since it doesn't speed up chi energy. Different woods affect chi energy differently. The dining table itself should occupy the center position. It is also very important to choose a table that fits the size of your area to make sure there is enough room to walk around the table, avoid any sharp corners that face your guests.

Minimize clutter as much as possible as it is death to feng shui. A crystal chandelier over the center of the dining table will help to balance chi in the room. Remove all clocks, calendars and television so none of the time pressures from the day carry over into the meal. Using a tablecloth, rather than individual placemats, is a great way to encourage camaraderie among your diners. Food to the Chinese is synonymous with good well being and fortune. A family that eats well and has enough to eat is said to attract money to them. This is why if you place a mirror in your dining room that reflects the table and the food you eat on it, in feng shui, this essentially represents the doubling of the familys wealth.
