Disk Defragmentation Tips - Defragment Disk More Effectively And Easily

It usually take hours to complete Defragmenting all volumes in hard disk

. If there is much free space in your disk, it won't take much time. But if there is only little available space, it can takes hours to defragment the whole disk.

How can we defragment more quickly and easily? Here are some tips that you can use.

1. When you are using Disk Defragmenter to defrag hard disk, shut down all applications, software and programs. If possible, don't even use your computer. Applications, software and programs can cause frequent writes and reads of the data in the disk. If Disk Defragmenter find the changes in the volume which it's defragging, it will restart the defragmentation.

2. Set the virtual memory to a certain value(normally twice as your RAM). Follow the steps bellow:

1) Right click My Computer and select Properties.

2) Click Advanced tap. Go to Performance area and click Setting button.

3) Click Advanced tap. Go to Virtual memory area and click Change button.

4) Select Custom size. And set Initial size as 1.5x as your RAM, Maximum size as 3.0x.

5) Click Ok. Then you are able to start defrag your disk.

If you follow the two tips, you can effectively and easily defrag the fragment in your computer.

Defragment hard disk can effectively reduce the amount of fragment in the computer. And it also improve the performances of disk and computer, and eliminate the risk of damaging hard disk and data loss. Normally, defragmentation once per month is enough. But don't overdo it!
