Yufen went back home before the end of Lao Li's funeral

. It had been dark outside but she didn't turn on the light. About nine o'clock, her husband Lao Wu came in. He turned on the light and found Yufen sitting on their bed. "You've come back," Lao Wu said with a surprised voice. "Urn." Yufen nodded without looking at him. "Go to bed earlier. You must be tired today." Lao Wu told his wife. "Not as tired as you are," Yufen's voice had obvious anger. "I don't want to quarrel with you," Lao Wu put off his clothes and said, "I'm tired. I wanna sleep."

He lay on the bed and turned his back to Yufen. Tears slid from Yufen's face. She heard her husband's breathing and felt it was so strange. This man who had been living with her for almost forty years turned out to be a stranger to her. She once thought that she understood her husband very well. She thought that he was a lonely and unfortunate man who lost his parents in the Cultural Revolution. As his wife, she must devote all her heart to him. She had done it. In their marriage life, she regarded him as her whole world. She liked what he was fond of, and she did everything in the way that he might be satisfied. In a word, Yufen lived for her husband for almost forty years. These years, she was not Yufen but the man's wife. In her mind, she hoped her husband would love her the way that she loved him one day in the future. Though Lao Wu ignored what she had done for him, Yufen persisted that Lao Wu would love him. Now, she admitted her failure. When she met Suyun, Lao Li's ex-wife in the funeral, she felt that something must happen. What happened later proved her prediction. Suyun called her to a quiet place where there were no other people.

Suyun was wearing a party dress. It made her look weird. How could she wear a party dress in such a sad circumstance! Yufen felt uncomfortable about Suyun's party dresses.Suyun was once a friend of Yufen. But when she told Yufen there was something unnormal between Lao Li and Lao Wu, Yufen started to drift apart her little by little for Yufen couldn't tolerate a woman who cast a slur on her husband. This time Suyun told Yufen why she divorced Lao Li.
