Diy Search Engine Optimization
There is a growing number of people looking to supplement their income with various multilevel marketing sponsored products
. This has now come back to the household as an acceptible means to generate business and Amway is no longer the bastard child of pyramid schemes. In fact, Amway is one of the most successful MLM companies today and they have done an amazing job turning around the negative ideas relative to multi-level marketing.
Given this, many people get stuck with "OK, I have a website, what do I do with it?". Here're a few basic requirements.
KEYWORD RESEARCH Your initial task is to determine what search terms you want your page to show up for (Google: "free google keyword tool"). Then optimize the pages on your site for those terms (Ideally you should not optimize any given page for more than a couple of search terms). Target the most relavent and don't choose highly general or competitive terms. You're chance of ranking are slim. For local businesses, you can choose a competitive term and then couple it with a local designation; like "plumber dayton ohio".
DOMAIN If you don't already have a domain, do a domain search on a registrar like Godaddy. Try to get your main keyword in the domain. Like above, it's often easy to take a general, competitive keyword and add local...like "daytonplumber.com" or "plumberdayton.com"...or "juiceplusdayton.com". Stick to the .com, .net or .org domain names.
PLACEMENT Then, relative to search you're looking for placement in sponsored (PayPerClick), Local (MAPS) and Organic Listings. Before moving forward, you should establish a Google account, like a gmail account, if you haven't one already.
PAYPERCLICK You get the sponsored positions by paying for them (top shaded area on Google and down the right hand side). Input some of your search terms to see if anyone is already using payperclick. If yes, then you probably understand that PPC is an excellent if not lucrative way to drive traffic. If so, get your self aquainted with Google Adwords (there's plenty of help on the site).
LOCAL (MAPS) Small business that tend to do will in the yellow pages will do well with a prominent position on Google Maps. Once you've logged into your Google account, you can navigate from to Google Business Places and enter your business profile. You can also set up a local listing in Yahoo and Bing. Make sure you fill the profiles out completely, use the keywords that you've decided on in your listings and make sure you put the same keywords in the categories (use all the categories, not just the first one. Google lets you enter many).
ORGANIC - ORGANIC LISTINGS The "free listings" are often the most desired and the most difficult. Each web page should be optimized for keywords which you'd like to show up in Google for. Every page on your site should be optimized for one or two keywords. If you need more, build more pages. The best areas to place your keywords include the URL, the page title, the metatags (both description and keywords), header tags and in the copy. The page should read well and be spell checked. Stuffing keywords in the page won't work and will get you demoted...so don't do it.
PROMOTION Links!!! The first thing I would do is set up as many social media accounts that make sense. (Again, completely fill out the profiles and pay attention to your chosen search terms.) E.g. set up a Fan Page on Facebook. Same for LinkedIn. Start looking for other social media that it makes sense for you to be involved in. Get on related forums. Engage in some of the online conversations. You can also blog on many social media and forum sites. Hyperlink keywords back to the appropriate pages of your site whenever the opportunity arises. AGAIN: Create hyperlinks using the same keywords that you want to promote a page for and use the URL in the hyperlink for that same page.
SUBMISSIONS There are literally thousands of search submissions besides Google, Yahoo and Bing. I recommend submissions but I think social media is a better bet first because of the amount and type of information you're allowed to submit. Still you do get links back to your site from various 2nd tier search engines...so use them.
For one person, this should keep her pretty busy! Hope this helps.
