Do You Know The Real Benefit Of Physical Fitness? It's Not What You Think.
Did you think the main benefit of physical fitness was a nice looking body
? Think again.
If you want to truly be happy, you have to be fit. There is no way around it. How do you feel when you look in the mirror? Do you avoid looking at your reflection?
I want you to learn how physical fitness and happiness are intertwined. Then I want you to decide to take the first step toward a happier life.
Here are my four steps to get the true benefit of physical fitness. These steps are not hard to do. Anyone can do them but if you have no desire for happiness, then you will find them impossible to do.
However, if you realize that your main purpose in life is to be happy, then you will see that you HAVE to take these steps. If your body cannot support you, then your life is restricted.
Your body is your "vehicle" to get you through life. If it crashes, then you are stuck. You cannot get where you want to go both physically and mentally.
At the end of the article I am going to ask you to seal the deal and make a commitment. Are you ready? Let's begin...
STEP 1
This is the critical first step to begin to grasp the benefit of physical fitness - Where are you now?
No lying here. Be brutally honest. How happy are you on a scale of one to ten with one being completely miserable and ten being euphorically happy?
I'll bet you are not at a ten.
How would you rate your physical condition? Again, no lying? If you had to do ten push-ups on your toes could you do it?
Look at your two ratings, happiness and physical condition, how close are they? I bet for most of you they are within a number from each other.
Can you start to accept how related one is to the other?
I want you to write a short statement - 2 or 3 sentences - about how you feel about yourself right now. This is going to be very important later on. Don't skip this step. Also record your two ratings.
STEP 2
Next I want you to think about all the things you have tried in the past with regard to your fitness. Have you tried to lose weight? Have you tried to start or stick to an exercise routine?
What happened? How long did it last for you? When you dropped your program, what were the reasons? How did you feel at that point?
Take time to focus on the feelings you had at that moment. Did you feel guilty, depressed, frustrated, angry?
Did you feel happy? I think I can answer that without even meeting you, the answer is "no." I have yet to meet someone who was happy about stopping a healthy diet plan or an active workout routine.
Write a list of the reasons you stopped doing your program. Again be honest. This is only between you and the sheet of paper you are writing on. There is no reason for lying or avoiding the real reasons.
STEP 3
Now it is time to picture your life if everything stays the way it is right now. How happy will you be in 5 years if nothing changes? How fit will you be?
I want you to visualize your life in detail with the same job, the same friends, the same family situation, the same diet and the same home. How will these things feel to you in five years if your relationships and happiness does not change? Will you be happy or miserable? Will you continue to gain weight? Will you be limited physically and financially?
I want you to imagine the worst case scenario. Create a clear vision in your mind and then write down some of the feelings that you experience while looking at this picture.
STEP 4
So far, not hard right? Ok, next step. Imagine your perfect life - the best case scenario. If you were at a 10 for happiness what would you look like? What would your life be like? What size clothes would you wear? Would you pass the nights away watching TV or would you be out dancing?
This time I want you to write down a description of the "10" lifestyle. What does it feel like? Describe the emotions you would be feeling.
Look at this description now and ask yourself, "How many of the things in my life are related to my physical condition?"
You will find that you can associate about 80-90% of your list back to your health and fitness. Now you can see that the true benefit of physical fitness is really your happiness. You cannot experience your perfect "10" life without it.
So I told you I was going to ask for a commitment at the end of this article, well here it is. Decide right now that you want to become more physically fit. Make the commitment but more importantly make a public commitment. Put it out on Facebook or tell your friends and family what you have decided to do.
By making the commitment public, you are less likely to just shrug it off and forget about it.
Remember that description I had you write in Step 1? I want you to compare it to your perfect "10" life from Step 4. Can you see how dramatically different they are?
You want to live the perfect "10." Don't settle for anything less. In order for you to get the benefit of physical fitness, you need to make some changes in your life.
What are you willing to do? When are you going to do it? How will you know when you have succeeded? You need to answer these questions and then get started.
