Do You Know Which Eye Drops Are Right For You?
There are many reasons for inserting drops into the eyes
. The most common reason is when the eyes feel dry and tired. When your eyes feel sandy or gritty then your eyes are dry. This feeling is often accompanied by your eyes continually watering. In chronic cases you may experience blurred vision especially when looking at colours or at night when in the presence of very bright lights.
The only solution to make your eyes feel better is to moisten and soothe them. To do this you need a solution of appropriate eye drops. There are many different drops to choose from. The most common solution is one that consists of electrolytes, pure water, lipids and lysosyme, which is a protein. This form of protein is included because it offsets bacterial cell walls and lactoferrin. Another kind of drop is made up of viscosity boosting polymers called hydrogels that moisten your eyes. These drops do provide some relief but can never replace natural bodily lubrication in the form of tears.
A solution containing HP-Guar and orate is suitable for moderate dry eyes. It is the cornea that is made comfortable by the orate reacting with the HP-Guar. The result of this reaction is the production of a lubricating gel. Drops with hyaluronic acid, polyethylene glycol 400 and sodium chlorite have the ability to cure the corneal epithelium.
In the case of chronic dry eyes you will find the usual drops are too mild and therefore not very effective. You need to use drops that serum based. This type of solution includes antibodies akin to what is contained in natural human tears. This makes a serum based solution very effective. However, this category of drops is not over the counter. It requires a medical examination and blood test. A medical doctor must decide if this is the right treatment for your dry eye irritation.
It is important to see a doctor because you may be suffering from a particular eye condition. If you do, your eyes may require drops that moisten the lipid stratum of tear film. This can only be done with drops that contain oils. In such a situation the oils both moisten and stop unnecessary tears. An example of a condition that requires drops with oil is meibomian gland dysfunction.
An important consideration of using drops is the amount of times you need to insert them into the eyes. Overuse of eye drops will make your eyes feel even worse. This is another good reason to ask a medical doctor rather than decide on your own. Every person is different. Some may need to insert drops five times a day, others three times a day and still others once a day.
Most people first opt for a regular over the counter product when their eyes feel uncomfortable and dry. However, if it doesn't work you could end up having to try and pay for a number of different kinds of drops. Your doctor would immediately diagnose either the severity of dry eyes or establish a specific condition. You would be prescribed the exact eye drops you need the first time.
