Not everyone needs a shade canopy. If you live somewhere where the sun beats down relentlessly, like, say, anywhere in the United States east of the Mississippi and south of the Canadian border, or anywhere where you actually like to get outside and relax now and then, it's a good idea to keep one around, but that obviously doesn't describe EVERYONE. Here are some people who DON'T need a good canopy.

Vampires

Vampires don't go out in the daytime anyway, so if you're a vampire, don't bother with a shade canopy unless the lights in your castle are getting a little harsh for your tastes. But seriously, if you stay inside twenty four hours a day, you probably don't need a canopy. For the rest of us, it's not so bad having one handy in case we want to go head to the park for some fun now and then.

Penguins

Penguins live in Antarctica, and while being blinded by sunlight reflecting off of the snow is something to contend with, a penguin rarely has to worry about being bothered by the excessive heat or anything. This doesn't just apply to penguins, but anyone else living in Antarctica, as well, like south pole research crews and John Carpenter's The Thing.

Actually, this turned out to be a pretty short list. The point is that shade canopies can really come in handy anytime you want to head outdoors and you don't want to worry about getting baked alive. It can also help to protect you from mild rain and other situations.

It's a good idea to keep some sort of tarp or canopy in your car so that, no matter where you go or how the weather's looking, you always have the option of setting up and hanging out outdoors.
