Everybody can grow gardens. Even if you are fairly convinced that you kill all plants there is no reason you too can't grow your own garden. You just need to do your research, be patient and you will absolutely grow a successful garden. All you have to do is follow the directions you've found correctly and you will be able to grow your own garden. You cannot have a black thumb because they are not real. If you want to grow a successful garden, simply follow the instructions laid out in this article.

Improve the quality of your dirt or soil before you begin planting. Not every patch of dirt is identical. The dirt that is already in your yard is probably not good enough to grow anything which is probably why you're convinced you have a black thumb. Each type of plant has its own set of dirt conditions that it needs to survive. Put some work into the soil before you plant. The best way to prepare your garden soil is to spread organic matter over the top of it. Compost is best but mulch and grass clippings are also good--spread them out a few months before you start planting. The organics will decompose and leave their nutrients in the soil for the nourishment of your plants.

Prepare your garden by digging into the ground and loosening the soil before you plant in it. Make sure gardening conditions are right or digging could be a bad idea. Don't dig unless you have moist soil conditions. To judge the conditions of your soil form a ball with the soil you've dug up--if it sticks together in your hand conditions are good. If the ball doesn't break when you drop it, the soil is too moist. To turn the soil and increase the air flow through it spading forks and spades are the best tools.

There are whole lists of easy to grow plants that you can use for inspiration when it comes time to look for seeds. You might also have great luck with cosmos, zinnias, Russian sage, black eyed Susan's, phlox, coneflowers and lamb's ears. There is no rule that says you have to choose from these lists for the first garden you grow. These are just the easiest plants to begin with when you are new to gardening. Once you have mastered "easy" plants you will have a better time with "harder" plants.

Believe it or not gardening is a lot of fun! Don't be afraid to admit that you like working the soil and getting dirty. You probably feel like a kid again! This is perhaps the top reason that so many people become so dedicated to gardening. The work that goes into gardening feels like playing!
