Do Your Employees Need The Hazwoper Training Courses?

Whether you are working in the general industry or whether you are in the construction industry

, as an employer, it is your sole duty to look out for your employees well being. An employee that is ill or injured because of his work reflects on the company. Productivity levels decrease and the company's reputation is ruined. This is why it is important for your workers to go through the HAZWOPER training courses. Hazardous materials training goes a long way in keeping your employee safe and healthy. However there are so many different HAZWOPER courses out there, then which one should you choose for your employee?

Waste Operations or Emergency Response?

HAZWOPER basically stands for 'Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response'. There are two distinct areas of functioning, namely: Waste operations, and emergency response. Which course your workers need to take depends entirely on the area that they work in and the levels of responsibility expected from them.

Employees working in hazardous waste sites and those who use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), or those who are exposed to hazards should apply for the 40 Hour HAZWOPER General Site Worker Course.

Employees working in hazardous sites but don't use any PPE can apply for the 24 Hour HAZWOPER Occasional Site Worker Program. Supervisors must apply for the 24 hour or 40 hour HAZWOPER training course.

However, most candidates who apply for HAZWOPER trainings do not usually work at hazardous sites, but get trained because the facilities at which they work in have the potential for danger.

Those who have gone through a 24 hour or 40 hour hazwoper training course are required to take an 8 hour refresher course once annually. It is however, very important to go through the refresher course before the year ends or the worker may have to repeat the entire training course.

If you still confused about which course your employers need, you can talk to a 40 hour HAZWOPER Training provider.
