Do all Online Relationships Lead to Cheating?

You've met a great girl over the Internet. She's smart, pretty, laughs at your jokes, and may very well be the perfect person for you.

The problem is you've already married the girl you believed to be the perfect girl for you. But, when does what you're doing with the other girl online become cheating?

That's a hard question to answer because cheating is a somewhat subjective term. We are learning that cheating isn't purely a physical act.

There is much more involved in many cases of cheating than having sex with another person. There is an emotional side to cheating that can be equally, if not more, devastating to the person you've married.

When does it become cheating?

When You Feel Guilty

Do you feel guilty about the chats you're having with the other woman? Do you enjoy the time you spend with the other girl but, in the back of your mind, feel that you're doing something wrong at the same time?

When you feel as though what you are doing is wrong; it's usually a good sign that it is at least on some level. People don't generally feel guilty for no reason.

It doesn't mean that you're a bad person or that you're trying to do something wrong but that feeling in the back of your mind is telling you that you should not allow this to continue. It's the first warning bell.

When You Can't Tell Your Wife

The number one rule of thumb to follow is this: if you would not share the emails, text messages, and chats with your wife then it's a good sign that you are cheating emotionally anyway.

Think about it.

Your wife is the one person that, before now, you probably shared everything with. She's the person you shared your heart and soul with. Now there is someone else, someone miles away that you are pouring out your heart too.

The problem is that while you're sharing your heart and soul with this other woman, you have stopped sharing these things with your wife. The distance grows between you and your wife while you grow closer and closer to the other woman.

You know, deep down inside, that if your wife saw the letters, emails, chats, and text messages you're sending the other woman that she would be extremely hurt. I believe that you would never intentionally hurt your wife. Is an online relationship worth that risk?

Do all online relationships lead to cheating? Most online relationships are cheating. You just haven't managed to consummate the affair just yet. You have the power to stop it in its tracks before it rips your marriage apart.
